FOCUS Nagaland organized a program for the release of grant-in-aid to 16 Farmers Producers Organizations (FPOs) supported by the FOCUS project on June 28, at the Secretariat conference hall, Kohima. The event was chaired by Hraveine David, Manager of Gender & Community Institutions at FOCUS-Nagaland.
Speaking at the programme, advisor of Agriculture, Mhathung Yanthan, acknowledged FOCUS for supporting financial assistance to FPOs and encouraged the present FPOs to seize the opportunity to reach larger markets and achieve economic gains collectively.
Pointing out that many FPOs exist only in name, Yanthan urged the farmers to strive for excellence, as high-performing FPOs will play a vital role in transforming the market and business scenario of the State. He further encouraged everyone to continue collaborating and create a space for sharing knowledge and experiences.
In a press release, State Project Director, Shanavas C, informed all the farmers about the purpose and objectives of forming FPO. He encouraged them to become efficient service providers, facilitating access to larger markets. He also urged the FPOs to promote the fellow farmers’ business through value chain development and encouraged young farmers to form successful associations by utilizing the grant-in-aid or seed fund to expand their business activities.
