Food safety awareness program conducted in Piphema

Food Safety Dimapur Zone, under the Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, conducted a Food Safety Awareness program on April 17 at the Cultural Hall in Piphema A and Piphema New.


In a press release Chief Medical Officer, Dimapur, Designated Officer (Food Safety), Samuel Zehol informed that during the session, Food Safety, Designated Officer, Samuel Zehol, emphasized the importance of local entrepreneurs, including SHGs and home-based food businesses, complying with FSSAI labeling regulations. He also highlighted the role of Village Councils in reporting food poisoning cases or any complaints to the concerned Food Safety Authority.


He urged council members to remain vigilant about imported food items, products sold beyond their best-before dates, and the use of harmful chemicals in the market to ensure public safety. He reinforced that food safety is a collective responsibility involving Food Business Operators (FBOs), consumers, and the wider community.


Village council, chairman, Pelezoto Kuotsu, advised FBOs in the area to adhere strictly to Food Safety norms and the FSSAI regulations. He warned against the sale of misbranded or substandard products within the jurisdiction. A spot demonstration of common food adulterants was given by Food Safety on Wheels, Dimapur Zone, Food Technician, Zuthungbemo Ngullie.
