DIMAPUR, AUG 29 (NPN): The U16 ASMITA Football League for Women 2026–27 was organised by the Peren District Football Association (PDFA) at the Turf Ground, Jalukie on Saturday under the directive of the Nagaland Football Association (NFA) in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Khelo India. In the final, Football Plus Academy Jalukie faced Kingdom Stewards FC Jalukie in a closely contested encounter. Football Plus Academy emerged victorious, securing a narrow 1–0 win to claim the championship title.
The league, part of the ASMITA (Achieving Sports Milestone by Inspiring Women through Action) programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, aims to promote women’s football at the grassroots level by providing young girls with regular opportunities to compete, hone their skills and gain valuable match experience. The Jalukie edition featured six participating teams, with young footballers representing different parts of Nagaland. Beyond offering a competitive platform, the league also served as a selection trial for the Nagaland State team for the upcoming Dr. Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2026–27, scheduled to be held from September 10 to October 7 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and Narainpur, Chhattisgarh. Officials and coaches deputed by the NFA conducted the player selection process during the matches, identifying promising talent to strengthen the state squad.
