Expressing grave concern over the delayed foothills road project, Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) has expressed support to the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC)’s appeal to the state government to put into action the Nagaland Assembly Resolution adopted on September 22, 2022 by taking up the foothills project under NEC during the Financial Year 2023-2024.
WSH through its media cell stated that the “unfinished nature of the renowned extraordinary project” known as “Nagaland Foothill Road” or “People’s Road” was reactivated in 2013 following a hiatus of four decades.
WSH stated that the project had been going on for a long time, but there was still no sign of success.
The hoho said that for the people who live in those districts 396km long stretch of road was considered to be their source of sustenance as well as a vital link in terms of communication and economic growth.
“This vital road link will benefit not only few but every tribe and accelerate economic prosperity,” WSH stated.
Further, the hoho said that the long-held aspiration of the people was now at the crossroads because the foothill road, also known as Trans-Nagaland Expressway, which was still pending, has forced the people of Nagaland to travel through the neighbouring State of Assam in order to reach hundreds of villages in Nagaland forcing common people to endure unimaginable hardships.
In light of the above, WSH has appealed to the state government to prioritise the community’s initiative and expedite in order to make people’s project a reality at the earliest.
