For the first time since 2nd wave, no Covid deaths in 7 days

Nagaland reported zero Covid-19 deaths during the week (December 4-10), the first time since the second wave of the pandemic hit the state. According to the Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department’s weekly bulletin released on Saturday, the state also witnessed a decline in Covid-19 positive cases, with only 16 cases being reported from the week, while the State’s weekly sample positivity rate stood at 0.4%. 

Of the 16 cases, Dimapur reported 12 and Kohima- 4. Three new admissions were reported during the week—two in Kohima and one in Dimapur.

Meanwhile, over 13 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine were administered across the state. Low coverage districts like Kiphire also reported a good improvement in coverage (4% increase), the department stated.

With the new variant– Omicron, classified as a variant of Concern (VOC) by WHO due to a large number of mutations especially on the spike protein, the department said that vaccination coverage of the state will be critical to prevent more deaths and hospitalizations in the subsequent waves.

State logs 5 fresh cases: Nagaland on Saturday recorded five fresh cases while no deaths were reported for the eight consecutive day. Of the fresh cases, three were from Dimapur and two in Kohima, taking the total caseload to 32151.
