Forest department of Nagaland has appealed public, government officials, village councils, army and para military personnel, students, NGOs and other stakeholders for protection of wildlife for protection and conservation of wildlife in Nagaland.
In an appeal note by principal chief conservator of Forests (wildlife) and chief wildlife warden Kohima, Satya Prakash Tripathi has appealed village councils to make resolution for banning hunting of wild animals throughout the year, instead of seasonal banning.
It also informed that due to importance of forests and wildlife the government of Nagaland had adapted the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
The department has informed that In case of any danger with the sighting of wild animals in human habitations, the wildlife warden, Dimapur can be contacted for tranquilizing the animal.
It also informed that in case of damage of crops/ killing of domestic animals by wild animals, the nearest forest/administrative office may be consulted.
The release also stated that Wildlife Wing, Nagaland Forest Department would try its best to make compensation against the damage on the recommendations of the assessment committee under the chairmanship of the concerned deputy commissioner.
