Forest minister apologises for comment

Forest, Environment & Climate Change, and Village Guards minister CL John tendered an apology during the Assembly (NLA) session Thursday for his comments regarding the deaths caused by elephants in Wokha.

It may be recalled that on Tuesday, when asked about the man-animal conflict in the area at the Assembly, CL John remarked that man was winning and cited the higher number of elephant deaths. The remark evoked widespread criticism from the public.

The minister while tendering his public apology also expressed regret for any offense caused. “I apologise to all the victims’ families for hurting their sentiments. I do not mean any ill intentions. I sincerely and deeply regret unconditionally,” he said.
