Former Awami League MP Sabina Akter Tuhin was arrested today in Dhaka on murder charges related to the July 2024 protests, as the interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, intensifies its targeting of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party.
Police confirmed Tuhin, former MP for Dhaka-14, faces multiple cases, including one for murder during last year’s “July Uprising.”
Other Notable Arrests and Allegations
In a separate development, Mohammad Monirul Moula, former Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited, was arrested Sunday night in a corruption case. The Anti-Corruption Commission had previously filed a case against Moula and others for alleged embezzlement of BDT 1,092 crore through loan fraud during Hasina’s tenure.
These arrests come as the Yunus regime continues its crackdown on the Awami League, with several other party leaders recently placed under police remand. Multiple arrest warrants have also been issued against former Prime Minister Hasina and her family. Analysts view these actions as a significant political vendetta, with cases filed on what are considered “frivolous grounds” since Hasina’s removal in August 2024.
