Family Planning Association of India (FPAI), Nagaland branch, held a media meet with Kohima Press Club (KPC) at the latter’s office, APO building, here on Friday. Branch general manager, Vincent Belho, in his address explained the work carried out by FPAI on sexual and reproductive health for the last 75 years, and launched the SPRINT IV project which focuses on preventing sexual and reproductive health, morbidity and mortality.

He disclosed that over 110 million people had been forced to flee their homes, driven by three interconnected realities including violent conflict, climate change and extreme poverty where almost half of such victims were children.

He pointed out that during times of emergencies and crisis, people were evacuated to relief camps/centres, or neighbouring communities and that the effect of emergencies differs for different communities.

Therefore, he said, in such situations, protection mechanisms and service delivery breaks down and SRH services become essential. Belho said FPA India with its Minimim Initial Service Package (MISP) ensures that clusters were identified through organisations/agencies to lead MISP Implementation.

He also disclosed that FPA India, Nagaland Branch was among 12 Branches across FPAI network selected for implementation and training and advocacy that would respond within 72 hours of disaster where normal functioning and machinery needs supportive action.

Counselor of the branch, Punasongla Jamir, highlighted that Global Fund project, Plan India aims to provide health services, specifically SRH services to the key population which were implemented in 10 branches, including Nagaland.

She pointed out that the objectives of GF project was to strengthen pathways to social protection, increasing awareness, rights and opportunities, advocacy for change, Integrated Health Clinic and Specialist Clinical services and CSE sessions for young PLHIVs and services for aging PLHIVs. Jamir said the main key population focused by Nagaland Branch were PLHIV and IDUs.
