
Three-member team from Family Planning Association of India (FPAI) is currently in the state capital, to see the work progress of its branch and also to engage with locals and understand the ground reality.
Interacting with media persons this evening at its office, Kohima, FPAI president H.R Umesh Aradhya MS highlighted the structures of the association across, saying FPAI has 44 branches in 18 states in India. He said there were more than 10,000 employees across the country where 800 regular staff are on salary and many on voluntary basis.
Director Adolescents, Amita Dhanu highlighted on the activities and the programmes of the FPAI and said FPAI covered beyond sexual and reproductive health but works for the poorest of the poor.
Regional director International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) Anjali Sen said FPAI was the largest civil society in the world, locally owned and globally connected.
Sen said FPAI came into existence out of the need of the community and FPA India envisioned sexual and reproductive health for all as a human right, including gender equality leading to alleviation of poverty, population stabilization and sustainable development.
The team members met state governor this morning and said the meeting was fruitful where the governor acknowledged the works of the FPAI and also insisted that FPAI join the medical camp to be held in the interior areas.
It was also observed on the need to create more awareness on health rights in the state, stating that people need to know where to access support when needed as government facilities were not available everywhere.
Branch manager FPAI Kohima, Vincent Belho informed that FPAI thinks of quality life and not only for population control and expressed the wish of the office to help married women to desires to have child but could not.
It also has a facility to test HIV and Hepatitis B and C and also gives counseling to the visitors. The team will visit Kezo town, tomorrow for health camp.
