Free cataract surgery eye camp held at District Hospital Longleng

DIMAPUR

A free cataract surgery eye camp was conducted at District Hospital, Longleng from October 6 to 11, 2025. The initiative was organized by the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI), Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, in collaboration with Longleng Town Baptist Church as part of its 75th Jubilee celebration.
The camp was formally inaugurated with a prayer led by Longleng Town Baptist Church Rev. Pastor Beau. Supervised by State Programme Officer (NPCB&VI), Dr. E. Phyantsuthung, the programme saw active participation from a dedicated medical team including Dr. Ramdeu Lungalang (Junior Eye Specialist, DH Mon), Dr. Thejavitui Kire (Junior Eye Specialist, DH Longleng), and supporting staff from IMDH Mokokchung, the Chief Medical Officer’s office, and District Hospital Longleng.
Over the course of the camp, a total of 241 patients were examined. Of these, 45 successful cataract surgeries were performed, and 20 presbyopia glasses were distributed to patients in need.
The camp aimed to provide free and accessible eye care services to residents of Longleng district and surrounding areas, while raising awareness about avoidable blindness and promoting inclusive healthcare.
Dr. E. Phyantsuthung expressed gratitude to Longleng Town Baptist Church for their collaboration and to all officers and staff who contributed to the success of the camp.
