Under a noble initiative three officers led by SP Longleng, Dr. Pritpal Kaur, have opened first of its kind “free coaching centre” for the aspirants of competitive exams by giving them free coaching and materials.
The three officers – Dr. Pritpal Kaur, EAC Longleng, Dr. Samuel Akho Konyak P and C. Lenke Phom (ARO) have been termed as “heroes” by the students for providing them an opportunity.
At present 29 students were attending the coaching class conducted at conference hall of Longleng Students Union.
Talking to this correspondent, Dr. Kaur said that she decided to start the coaching, when she saw many students who wanted to study but could not afford. She took this opportunity to let them know that everyone deserves an equal chance.
“These areas are far away from Kohima/Dimapur/Delhi, and nowadays coaching have become very costly. But I believe that education and career opportunities should be provided equally to everyone, to those who want to pursue their dreams,” she said.
Dr. Kaur said that they (three of them) used to purchase study materials from online platforms and provided the materials to the students at their own expense.
She said that the response was very good and everyone was punctual and attend the class regularly. She said that if any of the students clear any of the competitive exams and fulfil their dreams that will be most satisfying for them.
The classes were conducted early morning from 6 am before the offices start functioning so that they can attend their offices.
Dr. Kaur also said that they have some other teachers to fill in for them while they attend their offices. “They also teach for free. Humanity is still alive,” she added.
Further, the SP said that all these were possible due to unity of the people and conference hall of the Longleng Students Union has been used for conducting the coaching classes.
Earlier, Dr. Pritpal Kaur under her leadership provided free coaching classes ion Tuensang and Noklak.
C. Lenke Phom (ARO), who was born and raised in Longleng gave credit to Dr. Pritpal who came up with the idea to help the students who are not able to leave their village because of financial constraints and other difficulties. She said these coaching had been a great help to those students who appear their exams and waiting for their results so they can prepare for something better during their free time.
Speaking to one of the students, she said always wanted to take coaching but due to financial problems had to choose a different path.
“But today, I am very lucky not only because of the classes but also because of the teachers, they had been very supportive and helpful,” she said.
The students said she had zero knowledge on how to prepare for NPSC and UPSC exams but with the help of the teachers, she sees her future brighter as she was now familiar with the patterns to study, exercise my knowledge and prepare for my exams.
“Our SP maam, shares her notes, buy textbooks from her own salary and F4 size papers and they also arranged teachers for other subject too”, she said.
She said though they are far away from the cities, they expressed gratitude for the opportunity given to them by the three “hero’s”.
