Fresh attacks on NE people in Delhi

Two incidents of alleged assault targeting people from Northeast India were reported in Delhi, days after a case involving racial slurs against students from Arunachal Pradesh surfaced in the national capital.
According to reports, two students from the Northeast were allegedly attacked near the Saket District Court Complex on Sunday evening. The incident reportedly occurred when a girl and her friend were taking a walk and a group of men allegedly passed lewd and derogatory remarks at them.
When one of the girls objected to the comments, the accused allegedly assaulted her with belts. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Her condition was reported to be stable. Police have apprehended one juvenile in connection with the incident.
In another similar incident, a girl from Manipur and a transgender person from Assam were allegedly assaulted in a park in Malviya Nagar after racial and derogatory remarks were directed at them. One of the victims sustained injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Reacting to the incident, the Meitei Heritage Society stated in a post on X that the victims were punched and beaten with belts by a group of boys following racial and derogatory remarks, which led to the altercation.
The organisation urged Delhi Police and leaders including Khemchand Yumnam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Conrad K Sangma and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to take immediate action to prevent repeated harassment and insults against people from the Northeast.
The incidents come just days after a Delhi resident, Harsh Singh, was booked for allegedly racially abusing three women from Arunachal Pradesh following a dispute over repair work at their rented apartment.
