On Tuesday, the Delhi Legislative Assembly and Speaker Vijender Gupta received fresh bomb threats via email, prompting immediate police investigation. One email, received at 7:49 a.m. on the Speaker’s account and another at 7:28 a.m. on the Assembly’s official ID, warned of blasts at the Assembly and a nearby Metro station.
The messages mentioned several high-profile names, including Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Security has been tightened around the Assembly and nearby areas.
This follows a February 23 threat allegedly from “Khalistan” supporters, linked to the Speaker’s referral of remarks by Leader of Opposition Atishi to the Committee of Privileges.
The latest threat coincides with the presentation of the Delhi government’s 2026-27 Budget, estimated at ₹1.10 lakh crore, focusing on education, healthcare, subsidies, women’s welfare, and infrastructure. Chief Minister and Finance Minister Rekha Gupta is set to present her government’s second budget.
