The Friends of 80 Plus Kohima Village celebrated its 21st Foundation Day on Thursday at Tsiera Hall, L. Khel, reaffirming its commitment to the care, dignity and well-being of the village’s senior-most citizens, including octogenarians, nonagenarians and centenarians.
Presenting the annual report, Er. Medozhazo Rutsa highlighted the organisation’s role as a non-governmental, non-profit initiative comprising around 30 volunteers aged between 25 and 80 years. Over the years, the group has extended support, companionship and recognition to the elderly, with membership currently standing at 227. In 2026, 20 new members were added, while 20 members passed away between 2025 and 2026.
The khel-wise membership distribution is as follows: D Khel: 56 members (24 male, 32 female); L Khel: 100 members (32 male, 68 female); P Khel: 30 members (11 male, 19 female); T Khel: 41 members (17 male, 24 female).
Altogether, the organisation has 84 male and 143 female members. While welcoming new members, the group also paid tribute to those who passed away, acknowledging their contributions to the community.
The programme featured a special number by Friends of 80 Plus, the release of a souvenir by Atoulie Mepfhiio, and an invocation by pastor CRC, Kohima Village, Rev. Vichülie Kelio. A special prayer session was held for all members aged 80 and above. Free medical check-ups were also provided by the Kohima Village Doctors Association. The event was chaired by Vilakuolie Mere.
Reiterating its mission, the organisation stressed that caring for the elderly is not only a responsibility but also a reflection of the community’s values and identity.
