‘General Autorickshaw Drivers’ (GAD) Friday has decided to disown the Dimapur District Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union (DDADU) after the latter claimed that ‘General Autorickshaw Drivers’ was “non-existent.”
In a meeting held at State Stadium here on Friday, general auto drivers along with presidents of 17 auto parking within Dimapur town have resolved non- cooperation to DDADU by stop paying parking tax.
“Apart from DMC parking tax, no other taxes would be entertained from today”, GAD members added. GAD alleged that the present DDADU president K Hokaito Zhimomi was never elected by the auto drivers, adding he failed to address the issue when some members approached him for intervention on fare cut.
Meanwhile, the general auto drivers stated that Hokhuvi P Aye has been selected as its new president saying its president should be from among the drivers.
GAD further stated that it would be compelled to go for indefinite strike, if the administration fails to address the issue at the earliest.
They reiterated their stand to reduce the auto fares if the same yardstick was applied to other commercial vehicles such as buses, trucks, taxis etc.
The auto drivers have urged the public to report the vehicle number and name of the defaulters in case of any untoward incident or misbehaviour by auto drivers.
