Gaurav Gogoi Asserts BJP Will Be Ousted from Assam in 2026 Assembly Polls

Gaurav Gogoi, Assam unit Congress president and Lok Sabha MP, has declared that the BJP’s reign in Assam will come to an end in the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. Speaking to reporters in Guwahati, he claimed that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is losing public support, making it unlikely for him to retain power.

Gogoi pointed to the unexpectedly large turnout at Congress meetings across the state as evidence of growing dissatisfaction with the current administration. He emphasized that Congress workers will continue engaging with people from all sections of society to convey the party’s vision.

His appointment as president of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) comes at a politically turbulent time, following allegations from CM Sarma linking Gogoi’s wife to Pakistan’s ISI—claims Gogoi has firmly denied. With the elections approaching, Congress is expected to recalibrate its strategy to challenge the ruling party.
