Guwahati, Sep 6 (PTI): Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday welcomed the appointment of former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel as the AICC general secretary in-charge of the state unit.
Gogoi also expressed gratitude to outgoing AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh, who was in-charge of the Assam unit for the past few years before resigning from the position after the party’s defeat in the state assembly elections.
“We in Assam look forward to working with AICC GS Shri @bhupeshbaghel ji. His experience and guidance will be invaluable for us,” Gogoi said in a social media post.
“I am grateful to Shri @JitendraSAlwar for his stewardship and mentorship of the party in the recent past,” he said.
The AICC had on Saturday carried out a major organisational reshuffle and, among other appointments, named Baghel as the general secretary in-charge of Assam, shifting him out of the same position from poll-bound Punjab.
Baghel, a veteran party leader, was among the AICC observers for Assam during the last assembly elections.
