The Grandchildren of Sümis (GCS) who went to France as Labour Corps, will be observing the 100 year anniversary of the event on October 18, 10 am at NUS-Students’ Library, Charity Residential School & Montessori, 5th Mile Dimapur. The Labour Corps went to France in March 1917 and returned in June 1918.
A press release from Grandchildren of Sümis volunteer members stated that the Grandchildren of Sümis held a series of consultative meetings with the grand children, some elders and interested villages and consequently decided to organize a celebration of “this orally transmitted form of communication by our Grandfathers and to salute them – which we believe that they have handed down to us, as today’s generation.”
The Grandchildren of Sümis volunteer members have also appealed all the grandchildren of Labour Corps members of 1917-18 to attend the meeting and share the experiences of their grandfathers during the celebration.
