GHSS Peren students visit SAS, Nagaland University Medziphema

DIMAPUR

As part of their Multi-Skill Foundation Course exposure, a group of class 10 students from Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Peren district, accompanied by their course in-charge, visited the School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, on August 29.
According to a release from SAS: NU, the educational tour provided students with practical insights into various agricultural disciplines and skill-based learning opportunities.
During their visit, the students explored several departments, including museums, the SAS Library, and Instructional cum Research Farms. At the AICRP–Vegetable Crops unit, Scientist Dr. Ashwini Ananda briefed the students on the activities and guided them through various demonstrations.
At the AICRP Honeybee and Pollinators unit, students were introduced to the Indian honeybee, European honeybee, stingless bees, and other common pollinators, gaining insights into their ecological roles and importance in agriculture.
The Sericulture Unit provided hands-on exposure to the rearing techniques of the Eri silkworm, including discussions on its scope, limitations, and market potential. At the Instructional cum Research Farm, students observed production technologies for different crops and learned about diverse farming techniques being implemented on-site.
The group also visited the Insect Museum in the Department of Entomology, where they viewed various insect pests and beneficial insects, and learned about their significance in integrated pest management and ecosystem balance. At the Plant Disease Museum under the Department of Plant Pathology, they were introduced to common plant diseases impacting local agriculture.
The exposure visit concluded with a tour of the SAS Museum and SAS Library, and a photography session with the pro vice chancellor of Nagaland University, Medziphema Campus, Prof. Dipak Sinha.
