
National Day of Girl Child week was observed by district administration and MSK Longleng and by Assam Rifles at Jalukie.
Longleng: In Longleng, the programme was held on January 24 at DC’s conference hall, Longleng.
According to DIPR report, CDPO Longleng, Longlang Luckpan in his short speech encouraged the women and girl child present to participate and attend any programmes conducted under BBBP. He also highlighted about the service provided by Social Welfare department for women and child health care.
Grandmother-granddaughter photography competition was declared at the event. Apang bagged the first position, Putunungla second and Akokla was placed in 3rd position. The best school monitoring committee under BBBP was awarded to Christian High School Longleng. The winners were awarded with certificates and cash prizes.
Introductory note was delivered by EAC HQ Longleng, Rohbi Sangtam while pledge to enroll girls for education was led by Doichong Phom, ambassador for girl child Longleng and invocation was proposed by Yingliomei, superintendent Children’s Home PBCA, Longleng.
Meanwhile, as part of weeklong celebration of the girl child, safety kits were distributed to the Angawadi and Asha workers under Longleng district on January 23 at DC’s conference hall. The kits were received by CDPO Longleng, Longlang Luckpan and DCM Longleng, Henmei Phom.
Jalukie Battalion: Jalukie Battalion of Assam Rifles observed the girl child week at Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS), Jalukie from January 21 and to conclude on 26.
According to PRO HQ IGAR (N), the aim of the event was to nurture the capabilities of girls and their importance in family and society. While standing firm on Beti Bachao and Beti Padao (BBBP), an interactive session was conducted by Assam Rifles medical officer on nutrition and healthcare. A demonstration on self defense was also conducted wherein girls were taught arm combat in order to protect themselves from physical abuses.
