An arts gathering titled Glimmers is set to bring together music, dance, fine arts, fashion, crafts, film, photography and food on October 2 at Ura Academy, Kohima.
The event was announced at a press conference held at Phasaings Restaurant, Kohima, where organisers said the initiative seeks to use art to connect people and encourage families and communities to recognise its deeper purpose.
Glimmers president Avika Sekhose said the gathering was conceived with “the heart to reach the unreached” through creative expression and to bring different art forms together on a common platform.
She said the programme would feature music, dance, a fashion show, live painting, short films, photography, handicrafts and other creative works, with participation from children and mothers. She said the initiative sought to present art as more than entertainment, with the potential to influence how people understand and experience life.
Sekhose described Glimmers as a family gathering and encouraged families to attend together. Church leaders, officials and members of various communities are also expected to participate, while organisers have reached out to churches to encourage wider participation.
The programme will also feature panel discussions and live painting sessions. An acoustic guitar and an artwork by Among Venuh have been announced as prizes for a lucky draw.
Sekhose said Glimmers is envisioned as an annual gathering, with this year’s programme intended to offer a glimpse of a broader vision that could expand beyond a one-day event in the coming years.
The organisers said the initiative was inspired by the history of arts gatherings and international arts festivals within Youth with a Mission (YWAM), particularly the work of Colin Harbinson and his wife Maureen, who pioneered an arts movement within YWAM after joining the organisation in 1980.
The organisers said Harbinson later founded the International Festival of the Arts and initiated international arts gatherings, including Sacred Fire in St. Petersburg, Russia, Love without Borders in Sofia, Bulgaria, and Ode to Joy in Kunming, China.
The gathering will bring together artists, performers, designers, photographers, craftspeople and other creative groups, with the organisers seeking to create a platform where different forms of art can connect with wider communities.
