Department of Geology & Mining (DGM) on Tuesday held a felicitation programme for advisor, Geology & Mining and Department of Under Developed Areas (DUDA), W Chingang Konyak, at DGM conference hall, Dimapur.
Addressing the gathering, the advisor noted on the effectiveness of the department officials and sought advice on the needs to uplift and upgrade the department.
Speaking on the lack of revenue generation of the department, the newly appointed advisor said that he would try to speak with the government for Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) from Delhi, and with the state government for additional funds.
On the recent agreement between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, for oil exploration, Konyak said Rio was interested to extract oil for revenue generation.
Meanwhile, delivering an overview of the department, jt director, Kenyelo Rengma, said that DGM was established in 1968, with the main task to carry out mineral exploration and identify its resources with the aim for state to exploit its recourses for overall economic development of the people.
A discussion hour was also held where the department official requested the advisor to look into the matter of opening up check gate for the department.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by commissioner and secretary, geology and mining, K Libanthung Lotha and invocation by jt director, Newmai Asingbow, and felicitation of the advisor was initiated by director, N Longrikaba. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by jt director, Er Chirhotho Rasutho.
