The Global Naga Forum (GNF) held its general body meeting and a solemn rite of passage on February 21 at de Oriental Grand, Kohima, marking the conclusion of its first five-year term (2020–2025) and the installation of a new leadership team. Members from across the Naga homeland and the global diaspora participated both in person and online.
The outgoing leadership — Prof. Emeritus Paul Pimomo (secretary), Ram Muivah, IAS retd. (co-convenor), and James Pochury (general secretary) — were honoured for five years of distinguished service. Their tenure included fact-finding missions to Oting and Khamoi, AFSPA walkathons, the Naga Solidarity Walk uniting thousands under the banner “One People, One Destiny,” and advocacy at the United Nations and Geneva.
Meanwhile, the following officers were formally inducted for the new term (2026–2030):
Convenor: Chuba Ozukum (re-nominated); Co-Convenor: Prof. Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu (re-nominated); Co-Convenor: Samuel Pou (Hong Kong); secretary: Dr. Venusa Tunyi (University of Hyderabad); general secretary: Lakpachui Siro and treasurer: Dr. Theyiesinuo Keditsu.
In his acceptance address, convenor Chuba Ozukum reaffirmed the Forum’s founding principle, stating: “Leadership may change, officials may change, but the responsibility remains the same.
Global Naga Forum has never been about position; it has always been about shared responsibility.”
The new leadership pledged to advance the Forum’s mandate for 2026–2030, anchored in the pursuit of a just and lasting Indo-Naga political settlement, sustained international advocacy at the UN and EU, the campaign for repeal of AFSPA, youth capacity-building through the Naga Civic Fellowship, and ensuring financial independence of the Forum.
Reaffirming its commitment, Global Naga Forum declared peace as the precondition of justice and emphasized that the democratic, non-violent path remains the only path the Naga people will walk.
