Global Naga Forum (GNF) has expressed appreciation to several civil society organizations (CSOs) from across communities, including Meitei Leepun, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), Zomi Re-Unification Organization (ZRO), and Kuki Tribal Union (KTU/NSCN) for their gesture of goodwill and understanding in welcoming the historic visit of NSCN (I-M) general secretary Th Muivah to his native village Somdal after 52 years.
GNF through its media cell also acknowledged the Government of India and Manipur State Government for their “positive role in facilitating this long-awaited and significant visit.”
The forum stated that this moment stands as a meaningful step towards mutual respect and understanding among all communities.
GNF recalled that in 2010, the proposed visit of Muivah was met with resistance from both state authorities and certain Meitei and Kuki civil society organisations, leading to tragic events at Mao Gate where two young Mao Naga students lost their lives following police firing by Manipur Commandos. “This year’s open show of solidarity reflects a significant shift toward dialogue, peace, and reconciliation,” GNF stated.
Meanwhile, GNF has extended wishes to Muivah for good health and a memorable and joyful homecoming.
It hoped that this visit inspire deeper understanding, unity, and respect among all peoples of the region.
