Good Governance: BJP unit appeals PM for alternate date

BJP Nagaland state unit has appealed to the Prime Minister to change the date to observe ‘Good Governance Day” instead of December 25.
In a press note, BJP unit general secretary (media) and spokesperson, Jaangsillung Gonmei, said BJP unit president, Visasolie Lhoungu, had written to the Prime Minister appreciating the government’s effort to honour former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee by observing ‘Good Governance day’ on his birthday (December 25) and declaring it as a full working day.
However, Lhoungu lamented that the move had caused “immense measure of confusion, disillusionment and hurt the Christian sentiments.”
In the letter, Lhoungu also highlighted that Christmas was the most important festival of Christians, which is also celebrated by other faiths all over the world.
True to its importance and significance, state BJP president said Christmas has always been upheld by the country’s secular constitution and declared as a gazette National holiday.
In this regard, Lhoungu urged upon the Prime Minister that Nagaland be allowed to observe Good Governance Day on any day other than Christmas day so as not to disturb the celebration of Christmas in the state as well as  to clear the doubts and apprehensions in the minds of the people.
Meanwhile, BJP state informed that its central leadership has also permitted the party’s organization to observe Good Governance Day on any day other than Christmas so as not to disturb the Christmas festivities.
