Governor of Nagaland and Assam P.B.Acharya, eulogised the cultural heritage of people of Nagaland saying such a small state ought to be proud of its abundant culture where every tribe has its own song, dance and drama .
He said this while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural of the ‘Popular Music Night’ , Sunday on the last day of the ‘Spring Festival 2016’ organised by the NEZCC.
The Governor who is also chairman of NEZCC, said while people of Nagaland were proud of their cultural ,they should also fervently strive to preserve and promote it as without culture, a person has no identity. Acharya also turned to peace by maintaining that cultural activities were a strong medium for creating mental peace among people.
He narrated his experience at the recently held mega World Culture Festival in New Delhi organised by the Art of Living(AoL) where 35,000 artistes from all over the world came together on the same platform and demonstrated the greatness of art and music.
He also expressed pride at how Nagaland with a 100-strong performing team, took part in the Destination North East and World Culture Festival in New Delhi recently.
Acharya also pointed out that the north east region was the top in the country in the sphere of cultural activities and in this he highlighted how NEZCC, one of the regional cultural centres in India, had been striving to showcase cultures of all eight member states and the Spring Festival being one such event.
He proclaimed that the Spring Festival was a wonderful idea and which brought different states to showcase their music, drama and cultural activities to promote friendship, peace and happiness.
The Governor said it was unfortunate, that except for people of Dimapur, people in other parts of Nagaland were denied the opportunity of witnessing “such a wonderful show”. He suggested to NEZCC to decide in organising Spring Festival in four places of Nagaland. Acharya suggested faraway places such as Mon, Tuensang or Mokokchung or other places apart from Dimapur, for holding such an event of music, drama and song.
According to Media Coordinator of NEZCC, Sunday evening’s items included a rewind of cultural dance and folk music of the north east states with performances by Bro-Zai dance from Arunachal Pradesh, Dhol Cholom and Thang-Ta from Manipur, Warrior Dance from Nagaland, Bordioshikla and Bihu dance from Assam, Wangala from Meghalaya, Hozagiri from Tripura and Chheraw from Mizoram.
According to the press handout by the Media Coordination NEZCC, Sunday evening’s programme concluded with stellar performances from Alobo Naga and the Band and Indian Idol Season 3 winner Prashant Tamang to a rapturous crowd.
Media Coordinator further informed that the Spring Festival was aimed at showcasing the vibrant cultural heritage of the North East region. At least 400 performers from North East states took part at the festival. The festival also had cuisine and crafts fair for visitors and competitions, play activities and competitions for children.
