KOHIMA, JUL 25 (NPN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Saturday flagged off a commemorative bike rally from the Assam Rifles Garrison Helipad, D Block, Kohima, on the eve of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, paying tribute to Captain Neikezhakuo Kengurüse, Maha Vir Chakra (Posthumous), one of Nagaland’s most celebrated war heroes.
Organised by the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) under the theme “Ride to Remember. Ride to Honour”, the rally honoured the courage, sacrifice and unwavering commitment of the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. It was dedicated to Capt Kengurüse, who displayed exceptional bravery during the conflict and was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India’s second-highest wartime gallantry award.
Before flagging off the rally, the Governor felicitated the parents of Capt Kengurüse in recognition of their son’s supreme sacrifice and distinguished service to the nation, in the presence of the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North).
The rally traversed through Phulbari, Teen Patti, High School Junction, IG Stadium, Chieswema and Nerhema before culminating at the Capt Neikezhakuo Kengurüse, MVC (P) Memorial at Nerhema village.
The event witnessed participation from ex-servicemen, Assam Rifles personnel, members of motorcycle clubs including The Tribe Motorcycle Club, Taho Bikers, Mods on Kohima and Royal Sons Nagaland, as well as members of civil society, reflecting a collective commitment to honour the legacy of the Kargil hero and promote patriotism and national integration.
At the memorial, the participants were received by the parents of Capt Kengurüse, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony attended by serving personnel, veterans, local dignitaries and rally participants, who paid homage to the fallen hero. The programme concluded with an address recalling the enduring legacy of the Kargil heroes and their values of courage, sacrifice and selfless service, while mementoes were presented to participants in appreciation of their support.
