DIMAPUR, JUL 25 (NPN): Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Saturday inaugurated the Academic Staff College along with the naturopathy, physiotherapy and medical laboratory science/pathology units at the International University, Nagaland (IUN), describing the new facilities as a significant boost to higher education, healthcare and human resource development in the state.
The governor unveiled the commemorative plaque before touring the newly established laboratories and infrastructure with university officials and invited dignitaries. Addressing the gathering, Yadav praised the university’s progress since its establishment in 2006, saying it had consistently promoted innovation, social responsibility and environmental stewardship while embracing the “Catch Them Young” philosophy.
He said the Academic Staff College would serve as a centre for lifelong learning, faculty development and pedagogical research, stressing that the quality of a university ultimately depends on the quality of its teachers.
“By investing in our teachers, we unlock a powerful multiplier effect. Empowering one educator elevates hundreds of students and ultimately enriches the entire state,” he said.
Highlighting the newly inaugurated health sciences facilities, the governor said the university had adopted a progressive approach by integrating naturopathy and physiotherapy with modern medical laboratory science. Besides training students, he said the facilities would also function as diagnostic centres serving surrounding communities.
Yadav said the university had demonstrated that world-class education was not confined to metropolitan cities and encouraged students to become entrepreneurs rather than job seekers. He urged them to embrace innovation, develop enterprises and apply their education to address Nagaland’s local challenges.
He also called on faculty members to utilise the Academic Staff College for continuous professional development and undertake research focused on the state’s unique economic and geo-climatic needs.
Advisor for law and justice and land revenue, TN Mannen, said he had been informed that the Academic Staff College was the first of its kind in Nagaland and only the second in the Northeast. He said it would provide valuable opportunities for teachers and academicians to enhance their knowledge through orientation and refresher programmes while promoting the exchange of ideas and best practices.
Mannen also lauded founder chancellor Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi for his vision in establishing the Academic Staff College and expressed confidence that the institution would continue contributing to academic excellence and healthcare in the state. Referring to the newly inaugurated healthcare facilities, he encouraged the public to avail themselves of the services, noting his particular interest in the physiotherapy unit.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by IUN assistant professor, Sungjemienla Pongen, the programme began with a ceremonial lamp-lighting, followed by the formal session with the National Anthem and National Song.
IUN founder chancellor Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi delivered the presidential address, while registrar Dr. Roopam Bachhil welcomed the gathering.
The university also released its publications during the programme.
Director of the academic staff college, Prof. Zavise Rume, introduced the newly established institution and outlined its objectives, while pro chancellor Dr. Utkarsh Sharma highlighted the university’s infrastructural development.
Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Satya Lakshmi, also shared her views on academic and professional development.
Later, vote of thanks was proposed by joint registrar Dr. Durga Malakar.
