Gov inaugurates Central Library at International University

Nagaland governor, La Ganesan on Monday inaugurated the Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar Central Library at International University, Dimapur (formerly, The Global Open University, Nagaland).


The inauguration coincided with the eve of the 136th birth anniversary of Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. Addressing the gathering, Ganesan emphasized the importance of libraries in fostering intellectual curiosity and lifelong learning. He lauded the establishment of the Central Library as a fitting tribute to Dr. Hedgewar’s legacy, describing him as a towering figure in India’s cultural and nationalist resurgence.


“A well-equipped library serves as a center of learning and reflection, inspiring students and scholars to delve into history, philosophy, science, and humanities while staying rooted in the ethos of our great civilization,” the Governor said.

Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he reiterated that education was the manifestation of perfection already within individuals and that libraries play a crucial role in nurturing this process.


He further highlighted the significance of integrating digital learning tools, online resources, and modern technology into the Central Library to cater to the evolving needs of students and researchers.

He encouraged students to use the library not just for academic excellence but for intellectual and personal growth, fostering a deeper understanding of values, nation-building, and innovation.


Ganesan also congratulated International University, Dimapur, for the initiative and extended special appreciation to its founder and promoter, Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi, for his contributions, including authoring books on the aims, objectives, and achievements of RSS in both English and Hindi.

He also commended the faculty, students, and administration for their dedicated efforts in making the vision of the Central Library a reality.


“As we dedicate this library to Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, let it serve as a beacon of knowledge, national unity, and intellectual excellence,” the Governor said. The governor also released a book on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sanghe (RSS) author by Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi Founder Chancellor of the University.


The inauguration event marked a significant milestone for the academic community in Nagaland, with the Central Library set to become a vital resource hub for students, researchers, and scholars across various disciplines.


Vice Chancellor, International University, Nagaland Prof. Subhram Rajkhowa, in his progress report highlighted that in 2024, with the assent of the state Governor, the institution was renamed as the International University, Nagaland, marking a significant shift towards offering regular, campus-based higher education.


This transition, he expounded was not merely a change in nomenclature but a visionary transformation aimed at establishing the University as a center for excellence in professional and vocational education.


On infrastructure development and the role of the central library, he said the library is envisioned as a state-of-the-art knowledge hub, providing access to over 20,000 books, research papers, and digital resources; e-learning facilities with Al-enabled learning tools; dedicated study areas for law, health sciences, and business studies; collaboration spaces for research and academic discourse.


To him, this central library will serve as the intellectual nerve center of the University, fostering a culture of reading, research, and lifelong learning.


Sharing on future aspirations and vision, he asserted that the International University, Nagaland, aspires to become a leading Institution in vocational and professional education, not just in Nagaland but across India.


Delivering presidential address, Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi founder chancellor of the University while lauding the state government and the leaders for their prompt response to the university’s needs and proposal said this library has been envisioned to be a center of excellence, housing books on emerging subjects from around the world.


Chancellor of the University Dr. S.N. Pandey reflected on his journey with the institution and recalled his association with the Government of India, under the aegis of the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) for more than 27 years.

He maintained that under his leadership, the university has championed numerous initiatives in higher education, vocational training, skill development, and multi-disciplinary research. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by, Registrar, International University.
