KOHIMA, AUG 21 (NPN): Nagaland State Bharat Scouts and Guides (NSBSG) Award Ceremony 2026 was held at Dr. Imkongliba Ao Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on Friday, with Governor and chief patron of NSBSG, Nand Kishore Yadav, presenting the Rajya Puraskar (Governor’s Award) to 58 young achievers.
Congratulating the 24 Scouts and 34 Guides who qualified for the State‑level award, Yadav described the occasion as a celebration of character, discipline, commitment and service. He said the Scout and Guide Movement plays a vital role in shaping responsible citizens through leadership, teamwork, community service, outdoor activities and practical life skills-values he noted were particularly relevant to Nagaland’s tradition of community participation and collective responsibility.
Urging the awardees to treat the Rajya Puraskar as a milestone rather than a destination, the Governor encouraged them to aim for the President’s Scout and Guide Certificate at the national level. “Wear the award with pride, but carry the responsibility with humility,” he told the young achievers, calling on them to serve others, respect nature, uphold honesty and responsibility, and lead through service.
Yadav also urged NSBSG to expand its reach to schools and communities in rural and remote areas, while appealing to parents, schools and community leaders to encourage greater participation in Scouting and Guiding.
Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports and president of NSBSG, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, also addressed the gathering. The keynote and welcome address was delivered by Anthony Ngullie, Commissioner and Secretary, YRS and vice president, NSBSG. The programme featured a special song by Thejatshunuo Amelia Sekhose.
During the ceremony, 137 Scouts and Guides-45 Scouts and 92 Guides from Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung and Wokha-were presented the Tritiya Sopan certificates, the highest rank attainable at the district level. The awardees had undergone written, oral and practical tests covering Scouting and Guiding knowledge, first aid, knotting, mapping, compass, signalling, pioneering and outdoor activities, based on the syllabus prescribed by the National Headquarters of the Bharat Scouts and Guides.
The Rajya Puraskar awardees will now prepare for the next higher award at the national level. The vote of thanks was delivered by K. Neibou Sekhose, vice president, NSBSG.
