Gov Ravi to take addl charge of Meghalaya

President of India Monday appointed Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya, in addition to his own duties, during the absence on leave of Tathagata Roy, Governor of Meghalaya.

Meghalaya High Court, Chief Justice Mohammad Rafiq will administer the oath of office to Ravi at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan here.

The sudden leave taken by Roy came after the opposition Congress in Meghalaya demanded for his recall following his controversial tweet asking those who did not want “divisive democracy to go to North Korea” in the wake of the ongoing protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.

However, official sources said that the central government has asked Roy to go on leave for damaging the ruling party’s position in Meghalaya and the country as a whole for his recent “offensive and also racist tweet”.
