Gov releases book titled Distance and Open Education Worldwide

State governor P.B Acharya released a book titled Distant and Open Education Worldwide: Contributions of The Global Open University Nagaland (TGOUN) at Raj Bhavan Thursday evening.
During the release, he said if education was meant only to get a degree then a person fails to understand the word education itself as getting a degree and empowering knowledge was just the beginning.
The governor also lauded TGOUN whose primary goal was to bring skill oriented education to the youth stating that education empowers a person as without empowerment no state or country can be developed. He also congratulated the author for bringing out the book.
The author Dr. P.R Trivedi, who was also the president of confederation of Indian Universities (CIU) said the Global Open University was adored across the globe as trained more than one lakh fifty thousand student in more than 300 areas. However Trivedi said the mistake the University felt was that it did not reach the grassroot level in Nagaland.
 He said distant education has big future and expressed confidence that it would be able to do justice with the help of TGOUN. He also informed that very soon many programmes and development of the campus will take place and would be able to serve the people of Nagaland.
Minister forest and environment, Dr. Nicky Kire in his brief address congratulated the author and expressed optimistic that particularly the youths would be more benefited. Parliamentary secretary higher and technical education and SCERT Deo Nukhu acknowledged Trivedi for bringing the voluminous book to Nagaland for the release and said it would be of great help to the universities and educational institutions who procure the book.
Chancellor TGOUN retired IAS T.N Manen in his address highlighted the achievements of the university and also underlined the 115 courses including techno centric and employment centric studies  offered by the university. The programme was organized by CIU and Commonwealth of Distance Education (CODE), hosted by TGOUN. The book consists of 1500 pages, containing 108 chapters.
