DIMAPUR, JUN 19 (NPN): Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Nagaland Centre, at Medziphema on Friday and reviewed its research activities, technology dissemination programmes and contributions to agricultural development in the state.
During his visit, officials presented an overview of the centre’s work in crop improvement, integrated farming systems, horticulture, agroforestry, livestock development, fisheries, water conservation and climate-resilient agriculture. The governor was also briefed on various research projects, technology demonstrations, farmer outreach programmes and capacity-building initiatives being undertaken across Nagaland.
The presentation highlighted achievements including the development of drought-tolerant rice varieties, promotion of high-yielding crop cultivars, integrated farming models for small and marginal farmers, rainwater harvesting structures, improved cultivation technologies for Naga King Chilli, horticultural value addition and innovations in pig and poultry production.
Scientists also showcased the centre’s work in artificial insemination in pigs, conservation of indigenous livestock resources and dissemination of improved germplasm to farmers across the Northeast.
Yadav later visited experimental fields, nurseries, laboratories, livestock units, fisheries facilities and processing units, where he interacted with scientists and staff.
He commended their efforts in advancing agricultural research and supporting farming communities through location-specific technologies and extension services.
The governor lauded the centre’s contribution to improving agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices and strengthening farmers’ livelihoods.
He stressed the need to translate scientific research into practical solutions that directly benefit farming communities and contribute to the state’s agricultural growth and food security.
The visit concluded with a tour of the centre’s farm facilities and discussions with officials on opportunities for further strengthening agricultural innovation and farmer welfare in Nagaland.
