Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, has urged the banks operating in Nagaland to open up new bank branches in strategic rural areas to enable people of the area to avail banking facilities and for implementation of Central and State Flagship Welfare Programmes.
According to Raj Bhavan PRO, the governor, in a letter to five banks including Nagaland Rural Bank, NSCB Ltd, UCO Bank Central Bank of India and United Bank of India, said he had met with bank officers and urged them to open new branches in all districts.
“People in rural areas are unaware of the banking facilities and schemes provided by the Government through banks,” Acharya added. It may be mentioned that the governor had a meeting with twenty bank representatives on February 9, 2018 at Raj Bhavan. However, only those five banks have so far taken up the governor’s proposal with their head offices to open branches in other districts of Nagaland.
