Gov urges students to strive for excellence

Kohima, AUG 8 (NPN): Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav graced the 32nd edition of Spero Meliora 2026 organised under the theme “Break the Ice and Steal a March” at the Kohima Village Multipurpose Building, Ziekezou, on Saturday.
In his address, Yadav congratulated the Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) and Dolphin Club, Kohima Village, for sustaining the literary competitive programme for over three decades. He said the motto Spero Meliora, meaning “I hope for better things,” reflected the aspirations of students striving for excellence, while hope, perseverance and character remained essential to success.
Highlighting this year’s theme, the Governor encouraged students to overcome hesitation, take initiative and move forward with confidence. Quoting Swami Vivekananda, he urged them to “arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached,” while encouraging them to seize opportunities, embrace challenges and strive for excellence.
He further emphasised that in a rapidly changing world, success depended on independent thinking, effective communication and adaptability. He noted that literary competitions played an important role in developing confidence, critical thinking and clarity of expression among youth.
Yadav commended organisers, teachers, parents and volunteers for nurturing the talents and character of the younger generation. He encouraged students to remain curious, read widely and pursue their dreams with confidence, integrity and humility, reminding them that true success was measured not only by personal achievements but also by the positive impact one makes on others.
Earlier, Rev. Fr. Innocent Panmei SDB, principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Kohima, invoked blessings, while Dolphin Club president Kekuolhouthie Dziivichii delivered the welcome address. A special song was presented by Pfuchazhiinuo, and KVSU president Khriesaneikuo Kire delivered the vote of thanks for the morning session.
The valedictory session was graced by Joint Director, Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Neitho-o, as valedictory guest.
The 32nd Spero Meliora brought together students of Kohima village on a platform aimed at promoting literary skills, confidence, creativity and intellectual growth.
