Dr. Shürhozelie president NPF Central Kohima has disclosed, that the union home ministry has directed the Governor of Nagaland P.B.Acharya to summon the assembly for a floor test and that necessary directives were issued to the Nagaland BJP president in this regard.
He said this while addressing a packed hall at the NPF Central Office of party leaders and functionaries Friday afternoon on arrival from Delhi.
He also expressed confidence that “not all dissidents would go against the official party whip” and get disqualified as a consequence. Therefore, he said, there was no threat to “our party’s government under the leadership of T.R.Zeliang.”
Dr. Shürhozelie informed the gathering that national leaders of the BJP have confirmed that the alliance with DAN will continue and nothing would be done to de-stabilise “the only NDA-aligned state government in the north east.
He said the matter was raised with national BJP leaders since state BJP legislators had been issuing contradictory statements in the media vis-à-vis the NPF internal crisis.
He also said the prime minister at an earlier meeting on January 28 reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment not to disturb the DAN-III government. At the meeting with the prime minister, Dr.Shürhozelie said in living up to his reputation as “ a man of quick action” Modi did not waste time by calling up national BJP president Amit Shah, home minister Rajnath Singh and BJP general secretary in-charge of North East Ram Madhav to apprise them of the situation prevailing in Nagaland and the stand the BJP should take.
Later when he and chief minister T.R.Zeliang raised the matter with BJP president Amit Shah the latter asked “ when we have no intention of disturbing Congress-ruled states, why should we disturb the only NDA-aligned state in the north east?”
Union Home minister Rajnath also gave a patient hearing as Dr.Shürhozelie gave a detailed account of the present crisis.
He said it was learnt that the same evening, after a meeting between union home minister Rajnath Singh, BJP president Amit Shah and national general secretary Ram Madhav, the home ministry directed ed the Governor of Nagaland to summon the assembly. On the petition filed by the NPK(Noke) with the Election Commission to claim the ‘Cock’ symbol, Dr.Shürhhozelie said it was “unfortunate, childish and shameful” that the “rebels did not follow any accepted norms or procedures.” He said the tactic was only meant to confuse the public since the petition had nothing to do with the present crisis.
“We will file our reply countering them para-wise with a befitting reply” he said adding, that the Election Commision knew fully well “which of us has been following the laid-down rules as contained in the party constitution.”
CMO confirms PM’s support to Zeliang
Nagaland chief minister T.R.Zeliang has reaffirmed that the prime minister Narendra Modi, in his parting statement on January 28 in New Delhi, told him “don’t worry, I am with you”. Media Officer (MO) Karaibo Chawang in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO)stated this while drawing attention to disputations made by the rival NPF at Sovima against the “truthfulness of the press release” issued by the Media Cell of the CMO over the meetings between chief minister T.R.Zeliang with the prime minister and national BJP president Amit Shah on January 28.
On the contention of “the rebel group at Sovima” that the January 28 statement was not issued by the PMO nor the BJP president’s office, the Media Officer reiterated that it was not customary for the office of the PMO or BJP president to issue official statements on such meetings held at the request of visitors. However, it was pointed out, that in practice, group/person seeking appointments inform the outcome of the meetings to the press.
The MO reiterated that there was “no departure from normal protocol” when the chief minister provided information to the press about the outcome of his meetings with the prime minister and BJP president. MO said if the “dissident group” chose not to believe in the statement, then they should have verified it with the PMO and the BJP president’s office “before coming out with such concocted statements, based on their biased imagination”. Further, the MO advised “the doubting Thomases” to check up with the prime minister’s twitter account, where the photograph of the chief minister meeting with the prime minister was uploaded on January 28 “with appropriate caption.”
The chief minister has reiterated that the prime minister and BJP president had not stated, that they were siding with “this or that group” in the NPF dispute. Further, MO also said that the chief minister had not sought support of the prime minister and BJP president but only a reassurance that they were in favour of BJP’s continuance in the DAN since it was “an important partner, right form the beginning”.
MO said the chief minister also wanted to know whether both national leaders were in favour of change in DAN leadership “in view of the activities and press statements of some of their MLAs and state unit leaders”. In response, the MO said both leaders assured the chief minister that they were “keen to keep the DAN alive” and presently, were not interested in destabilising the DAN government or changing the leadership of the present NPF-led DAN-III government headed by T.R.Zeliang.
Adds Kohima Correspondent: DAN spokesperson Yitachu challenged the NPF (Noke-Kaito) to prove their claim that they had majority through a constitutional process, or else should stop fooling the people.
Talking to Nagaland Post, Yitachu said if the “Sovima campers” failed to prove majority on the floor of the house then their camping at Sovima for month was “just for taking the Naga people for a ride”. He also said distribution of portfolios will not be an issue since legislators in Kohima camp had concern for the people, the government and the party, unlike the “Sovima campers”.
Yitachu said chief minister T.R.Zeliang, NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie and party secretary general K.G.Kenye apprised party legislators on the outcome of their meetings in Delhi with the prime minister, home minister, BJP national president, national BJP general secretary and other BJP leaders at Hotel de Oriental Grand.
He slammed NPF(Noke-Kaito) spokesperson Imkong L.Imchen’s statement as the “cheapest statement” for terming the CM’s statement as “false and fabricated”. Yitachu said it was unfortunate that such a statement came from an elected member who misused the opportunity given to represent the people
On the Election Commission seeking reply from NPF central Kohima by February 16, he said it was only a procedure while the demand for recognition by the “Sovima campers only signalled their frustration.”
