Nagaland governor P.B. Acharya and chief minister T.R. Zeliang on Tuesday extended greetings to all personnel of Nagaland Home Guards and Civil Defence (HG&CD) on the occasion of its Raising Day which is celebrated on December 6.
In his message through DIPR, Acharya said that commendable job and yeomen service rendered to the people by HG&CD should be appreciated. The governor also took note of the great role played by the organization in assisting the security personal and civil administration in dealing with incidents arising out of “internal security, natural and manmade calamities, communal disharmony and welfare activities”.
Acharya further expressed hope that the move of the State government to enhance the honorarium of Home Guards from Rs. 150 per day to Rs. 520 per day would propel and strengthen the Home Guard personnel’s family and economic life.
The governor also extended greetings to all officers, ranks and file of the Nagaland HG&CD and urged them to continue to extend its selfless service in safeguarding the civilian life and property in the state with more enthusiasm and perseverance.
Chief Minister: In his message, chief minister T.R. Zeliang said that HG&CD was originally raised as a subsidiary force to aid the State Police and civil administration in maintenance of law and order, but over the years the role and responsibilities of Civil Defence and Home Guards have grown hugely. He pointed out that, in addition to its primary role as a reserve force, the organization has also became part of the dedicated State Disaster Response Force and one of the first response teams to attend natural and manmade calamities and other emergencies. He therefore, expressed confident that the recent enhancement in their daily allowance will inspire the CD & HG personnel to continue to work with renewed dedication and right motivation.
