Greeting the people on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti — birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi October 2, Nagaland governor P. B. Acharya has called upon the people take a pledge to make the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan (clean India mission) successful. In his message, Acharya said cleanliness was very near to Gandhiji’s heart and as such the present government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji launched Swachch Bharat Abhiyan to make a completely clean India by 2019, the year of Gandhiji’s 150th Birth Anniversary. Asserting that Gandhiji’s philosophy especially in today’s turbulent times was becoming more and more relevant, the governor said “we must aspire to build a better, safer, more tolerant and peaceful world by emulating his great ideals.” He pointed out that violence cannot beget anything, adding that it was only through non-violent means that “we can aspire to achieve our goals.” On the occasion, governor also appealed to all to “shun violence and to join in the process of building a ‘Swachh’, ‘Shashakt’ ‘Samriddh’ and ‘Niryog’ Bharat by peaceful means.” Further, Acharya called for remembering and praying for Gandhiji on Gandhi Jayanti – his birth anniversary and resolve to follow his ideals.
