Nagaland governor, La Ganesan inaugurated the Indian Intraocular Implant & Refractive Surgery Convention, India (IIRSI) at Hotel ITC Chola, Chennai on July 8.
A report by PRO Raj Bhavan informed that speaking on the occasion, the Governor apprised the doctors from across the country, who were attending the convention that the 41st IIRSI convention was a platform for interaction with respect to the development of new diagnostic and treatment modalities in Ophthalmology through experiences from the globe.
He said that the conference was also about learning from experts in Ophthalmology from across the globe.
The Governor said that South Indian especially Tamil Nadu has always been a forerunner in healthcare particularly in Ophthalmology and hosts many of the premier eye institutes from where aspiring Ophthalmologists embedded with skills and advanced technology passed out and serve in different parts of the country.
The governor also shared about the contributions of secretary general IIRSI Prof. Amar Agrawal who was the first Indian and Asian to be elected as president of the International Society of Refractive Surgery/ American Academy of Ophthalmology 2013-14 and also won several awards for the presentation of challenging cases in America Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery at USA. He also appreciated Agrawal and his team for their yeomen service to the society by providing numerous free surgeries to the needy.
At the function, the Governor congratulated all the dignitaries and delegates, who were honored for their contribution to Ophthalmology.
On the occasion, the governor also handed both the awards to International and National awardees. Others who Spokes on the programme were president- AIOS Dr.Harbansh Lal and chairman Scientific Committee-AIOS Dr.Namrata Sharma.
