Governor launches ‘IYoM-2023 Calendar’

Nagaland governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi launched a year-long activities of “International Year of Millets (IYoM- 2023) Calendar 2023” in Kohima in the presence of Chief minister Neiphiu Rio and some officials during the Stalls Exhibition on January 26.
The IYoM- 2023 Calendar was launched with an aim to create awareness and increase production and consumption in millets in the state as millets were among the first cereals to be cultivated and considered “nutri-cereals” due to high nutritional content.
At the launching of IYoM- 2023 Calendar, millet seeds were also distributed to three millet growers beneficiaries, and complimentary millets process food was distributed.
As part of the year-long activities, the department will also be distributing free millet seeds to the millet grower.
Various training/workshops on millet at districts and sub-divisions, formation of millet farmers, FPOs and training on millet crops, organising millet festival at districts and subdivisions will be carried out during the year long activities. The activities will be concluded with exhibition-cum-showcasing millets for market outlets at the Hornbill Festival at Kisama from December 1 -10, 2023.
