DIMAPUR, JAN 22 (NPN): Newly elected team of the Angami Public Organisation (APO) expressed the hope that Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya, who was closely acquainted with the Naga people for many years, would guide and act in the affairs of the people so as to benefit them.
The newly elected office bearers paid a courtesy call on the Governor at Raj Bhavan on January 20.
In response, the Governor warmly welcomed the APO team and shared his views on the issue of Naga political negotiations and the ongoing political situation in the state.
PB Acharya also echoed his earlier views that the present political imbroglio in the state was an “internal party strife” of the NPF and therefore did not require his intervention as the constitutional head.
Further, the Governor lamented that the crisis affected the interest of the public and added that it was a “sad situation within the ruling NPF party” that won a massive mandate of the people.
On the over 50-year protracted Naga political issue, the Governor told the APO team that negotiations have been prolonged to 17 years, and felt the need for transparency in the talks by involving public organizations to ensure that the solution that was unanimously acceptable to all would be achieved in 18 months as assured by the prime minister.
In this, the Governor felt an urgent need for civil societies to be consciously concerned for a final solution.
The Governor also impressed upon APO that civil societies need to take pro-active role in combating the menace of corruption in the government system and the state.
The Governor solicited for co-operation from the APO and civil societies and opened the doors of Raj Bhavan to all for the welfare and interest of the common people of Nagaland.
