Governor’s awards in Arts, Music and Literature

Three individuals and one society received the Governor’s Award for Distinction in Arts, Music, and Literature. While Temjen Aier and Throngkiuba Yimchungru received the award in Arts category, NK Naga and Lidi Kro-u Society, a women’s group, received the award in music category.


Giving away the awards at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on Thursday, governor La Ganesan said the day held profound significance for every Indian, reminding of the sacrifices and indomitable spirit of the forefathers who fought valiantly to secure India’s freedom.


He also called for honouring and paying respect to all the heroes and outstanding individuals from various fields whose contributions had made everyone proud and helped the country achieve greatness and prosperity.


Standing on the threshold of a new era that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had termed “Amrit Kaal”, the governor said the this golden period signified a time of renewal and resurgence, and also a moment to re-imagine the future and work collectively towards a stronger, more prosperous India.


He said the vision for a “Viksit Bharat”, a developed India, was within grasp, adding that it would be an India where every citizen, irrespective of their background, had the opportunity to thrive, an India with robust infrastructure, inclusive growth, and a leading position on the global stage.


He stressed that this vision called for dedication, innovation, and unity from every one.
He urged upon all to look towards the future with a sense of responsibility and resolve, stressing that the youth were the torchbearers of this new India. He said it was their creativity, energy, and passion that would drive the country forward.


He called for embracing the spirit of patriotism, not just as love for the motherland, but as a commitment to contribute positively to the country. He underscored that patriotism was not confined to words or ceremonies, but reflected in the daily actions, respect for fellow citizens, and dedication to the principles of justice, equality, and freedom.


Mentioning that it was imperative to also recognise the integral role of culture in shaping identity, he remarked that art, music and literature were not merely forms of expression but were vital threads that added colours to the diverse heritage. He said they inspired, united and offered solace, forging connections that transcended barriers.


Ganesan said it was a privileged to honour the exceptional talents of individuals who had distinguished themselves in these fields through the awards, pointing out that these awards stood as a testament to the vibrant cultural landscape of Nagaland and the exceptional creativity that flourished in the society.
Congratulating the winners, he said their dedication and passion had not only enriched the cultural heritage but also inspired countless others to follow in their footsteps.


He said he was glad that the award was instituted to honour the distinguished and talented artistes from the state in the field of Art, Music and Literature. He hoped the government’s initiative would motivate the youngsters to pursue their dreams and passion and bring laurels and glory to the state and the country.


He urged the talented Naga artistes, musicians and intellectuals to harness the creativity and richness of the culture and display it to the rest of the world.
