Govt appeals YAA, YTC to lift bandh

An emergency cabinet meeting held on January 5 in the residential office of the chief minister discussed matter relating to the proposed golden jubilee celebration of YAA at Shamator and requested YAA and YTC to lift the indefinite bandh.
In a press release, cabinet secretary R.B Thong said the cabinet deliberated on the matter and decided that Tuesday’s cabinet meeting with only five ministers was short of quorum (which is seven). Hence, the meeting was not in a position to review the earlier Cabinet decision of December 30, 2015.
Affirming that the government was not averse to holding of the conference at Shamator so long as the situation was conducive, the cabinet meeting therefore decided that YAA may be requested to defer the celebration to a date which gives reasonable time to the government to further discuss the issue and settle it amicably and also lift the indefinite bandh.
“If agreed to by YAA, the expenses incurred for deferring the function will be paid by the state government,” the cabinet meeting resolved and stated that as and when the chief minister retuned back to station, the cabinet will take up the matter for further consideration.
