Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio maintained that his government continued to strive for the equitable distribution of infrastructure development in the State, irrespective of district and tribe.
According to DIPR, Rio said this while addressing the inaugural programme of Government Polytechnic institute at Hukphang under Longleng district. Rio also informed that out of 10 Polytechnic institutes in the state, three have been established in Mon, Tuensang and Longleng under ENPO area.
He said that keeping in mind the development of ENPO areas the government had also upgraded four administrative headquarters to full-fledged districts including Longleng. Rio also said the despite ENPO areas lagging behind in literacy due to various reasons, in the development sector, the area was moving forward at par with the rest of the districts in the state.
He also highlighted various infrastructure development projects that have taken place under ENPO jurisdiction, where 40 percent of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme have been sanctioned for the development of ENPO areas.
Rio also mentioned the construction of National Highway from Mon to Dimapur via Pangsha, Noklak, Kiphire, Zunheboto was underway and another foothill road project along with rail connectivity from Tizit under Mon district to Dimapur which was also underway.
The chief minister also announced that a civil engineering college would be opened in Longleng soon, with 30 students for the initial period, and to be followed in other districts.
He also expressed the hope that the polytechnic institute would build its reputation with the equal contribution and full cooperation of the department, institution, landowners and public leaders of the district.
Rio also congratulated the people of Longleng and the department for the successful completion of the Polytechnic institute, as committed by his government. Rio also said education was the backbone for any kind of development and was optimistic that the introduction of technical education in the district would benefit the people in moulding them with the required skill sets.
He also appealed to people to take the responsibility and ownership of the Polytechnic institute as without the cooperation and support of the local people, establishment of any kind of institutions would be a failure. In this regard, Rio encouraged the gathering to shoulder the responsibility without blaming the government.
Rio also said Longleng was the gateway for the people of Tuensang, Aboi, Tobu and Mon, and with the existing development of good road connectivity in the district, it would contribute to the economic growth of the people.
Meanwhile, Rio highlighted the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) and urged all to avail the insurance card from the respective district administrations and hospitals. He said the insurance would cover every citizen of the state with insured sum of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year on a floater basis and for CMHIS (EP) beneficiary families, the sum insured is Rs. 20 lakhs per family per annum on a family floater basis.
Rio also spoke on Chief Minister Micro Finance Initiative (CMMFI) scheme launched for the unemployed youths. He said the main purpose of the scheme was to create job opportunity and urged the people to available the opportunity provided by the government.
Health & Family welfare minister S. Pangnyu Phom, advisor Technical Education & Election Medo Yhokha, deputy commissioner Longleng Dharam Raj and village council chairman Hukphang also addressed the gathering.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by additional secretary Higher & Technical Education Sentiyanger Pongen and invocation prayer by Rev. H. Beau, pastor LTBC.
