Govt extends lockdown measures till Sep 16

The state government on Thursday announced an extension of the ongoing Covid-related lock down measures and relaxations for various activities in the state till September 16, 2021.

In an order, issued through the Home department, principal secretary Abhijit Sinha said that the government decided to extend the lockdown measures and relaxations for the various activities, as per the August 18 order for another two weeks– beyond September 2 up to September 16, 2021.

It may be mentioned that the High Powered Committee (HPC) on Covid-19 headed by state chief minister Neiphiu Rio on August 16 decided to go for a 15-day ‘Unlock 5’ from August 19 till September 2, 2021.

DoSE willing to open schools for classes 9, 10

PTI: Department School Education (DoSE) is willing to open schools for classes 9 and 10 to facilitate offline teaching but the final decision will be made by the High Powered Committee (HPC) on COVID-19, an official said on Thursday.

Educational institutions of the state were shut since April 29 due to a spurt in coronavirus cases and online classes were being taken. However, physical classes for higher secondary and college students resumed from July 26.

“The education department is of the view that classes 9 and 10 can be taken offline, but the decision to open schools has to be taken by the HPC,” pincipal director School Education, Shanavas C, said.

If the HPC seeks the opinion of the department, it would suggest phase-wise opening of schools starting with classes 9 and 10 as the daily Covid positivity rate is now low, he said
