Terming the March 22 killings as a criminal and highly condemnable act, chief minister Neiphiu Rio asserted that the State government was taking a very serious view of the situation.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of an event here on Friday, Rio claimed that the government was doing its best to contain the situation by deploying adequate security forces in the area and stressed that all disputes should be settled amicably.
Lauding Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi, who resigned from the post of president Western Sumi Hoho to own moral responsibility for violation of the WSH’s resolution of 2019-2022, Rio said he welcomed Dr. Zhimomi’s decision and urged leaders to be firm with this particular issue, as there should be no room for compromise.
To queries on violation of government’s order on maintaining status quo by both parties, he said Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the matter.
Though precious lives were lost, Rio expressed the hope that good sense would prevail and that law would take its own course.
Asked about the inaction of IRB personnel stationed around the vicinity at the time of the incident, Rio said that as SIT was conducting the probe, he would not like to comment on it.
On whether the incident would hamper the peace process due to alleged involvement of UGs , Rio said he hoped that it will not be case as those involved may have done so due to their personal interest and not as per any collective decision.
Naga issue: On whether the Centre had given any assurance on Naga solution during his recent visit to Delhi, Rio said that there had been some displeasure expressed among the negotiating parties.
He however was optimistic that solution was achievable if issues were discussed carefully between the negotiating parties.
Rio said that he along with leader of opposition TR Zeliang had recently met Union Home minister Amit Shah, Intelligence Bureau negotiators and NSCN (I-M) leaderships and shared public concern and thoughts to them.
Mar 22 incident ‘total failure of govt: NPCC
DIMAPUR, MAR 26 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has said the March 22 incident was due to “total failure of the state government” which led to the killing of three innocent, unarmed and peaceful citizens.
NPCC president K Therie said Congress has been observing the “inefficiency” of the PDA government since four days after the incident occurred when no arrest has yet been made. He said this “goes to explain the government’s intention.”
He demanded that justice be delivered without fear and prejudice. Therie also said that the state government was fully aware of the sensitivity since long and did nothing because of “negligence and inability to make decisions.” He claimed that people of the state no longer respect the state government for which the subject of public order fell.
Further, Therie said that the March 22 action, has shamed Christian society. “The assailants if Christian, should repent before God and be made known to Christian Society by surrendering to the law of the land.” He also said that the incident was not an accident but rather, an afterthought. Therie conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for rest to the departed souls.
