State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) Nagaland chairman Alun Hangsing said that the state government was serious and committed to strengthen child rights.
He said this while addressing the inaugural session of the 7-day residential training of state Child Welfare Committees, organized by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in collaboration with SCPCR and facilitated by Seva Bharati Purbanchal, at hotel 2K Kohima Monday.
Hangsing said after the Central government had adopted the Child Rights Act in 1992, the state government also adopted the same in 2013. Reiterating that the commission as well as the government was serious in strengthening child rights, Hangsing noted that the objective of the government was to ensure a vibrant future for children by creating a conducive atmosphere for them to live in.
The chairman maintained that the four pillars of the commission was right to survival, right to protection, right to development and right to participation.
He, therefore, said that the CWCs have been given the responsibilities to ensure that they look into the welfare of children and particularly those in need of care and protection.
Additional secretary Social Welfare Yongchingkumla also addressed the gathering and was hopeful that the participants would be enriched during the training session.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by SCPCR member Akumla Longchari, opening remarks by divisional head, child labour and children in distress, NCPCR, Payal Sharma. Later, technical sessions were conducted by Payal Sharma and Swasti Priya of NCPCR.
