Govt’s Sunday notifications a worrying precedent: NPCC

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Monday expressed serious concern over two notifications issued by the Personnel & Administrative Reforms (Personnel ‘A’ Branch), department on Sunday (April 13, 2025), which it said also happened to be Palm Sunday, a sacred day for Christians.

NPCC through its communications department asserted that the two notifications—Notification No. PAR-4/6/2020/B and Notification No. PAR-4/6/2020/A—, which were issued had set a worrying precedent.

NPCC claimed this was the first time the transfer orders have been issued on a Sunday in Nagaland since it attained statehood in 1963. “The fact that the day also happened to be Palm Sunday, a day that holds huge religious and cultural importance for Christians all over the world lends the government’s move all the more insensitive,” NPCC said.

The Congress party has urged the state government to act with more empathy, and not allow the governance of Nagaland to be influenced by Hindutva ideology or the policies of the RSS, which it said were “far removed from the beliefs and values of the Naga people.”
Further, NPCC called upon the government to withdraw or review the two notifications and ensure that such actions did not become a trend.
