DIMAPUR: Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) has condemnated the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl on July 7, 2026 at Medziphema Town. The association said the alleged crime, which took place within the victim’s own residence-a place meant to provide safety and security-was deeply disturbing and constituted a grave violation of the rights and dignity of a child. It described the act as barbaric and stated that such crimes have no place in a civilized society and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Standing in solidarity with the survivor and her family, GPPK offered prayers for her physical, emotional and psychological recovery and expressed hope that she receives every possible support to overcome the traumatic experience. The Association urged investigating authorities to ensure a prompt, impartial, transparent and thorough investigation, and to bring the perpetrator to justice in accordance with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 and other applicable laws. It appealed to citizens, community organisations and institutions to remain vigilant, strengthen child protection measures and actively support efforts to prevent crimes against children.
